The Firm has a vibrant Shipping Law Group consisting of partners and associates with a wide range of experience and expertise in Admiralty and shipping laws. We work with ship owners, operators, charterers, brokers, insurers, P&I Clubs, banks, shipyards and traders.
Our non-contentious work covers banking and finance, sale and purchase, shipbuilding contracts, commodity contracts, registration and ship management agreements.
On the contentious side, we get involved in all types of marine and international trade related disputes, including bankruptcy and insolvency, and we have specialists in all aspects of maritime accidents.
With an extensive overseas network, we have a track record of establishing close links with clients from all parts (and ports) of the world.
The Shipping Law Group works independently and, where appropriate, in conjunction with the General Litigation Department on all kinds of "wet" work and contractual disputes, which can arise from such casualties. The Group attends and advises on collisions, groundings and other major casualties including fire and explosion and has expertise in successfully managing serious marine incidents.
The group assists clients by instructing and liaising with foreign lawyers and coordinating multi jurisdictional disputes. It advises upon, and acts in, the arrest of vessels and assets worldwide.
The group also provides high quality legal service when dealing with the enforcement of awards and judgments worldwide and has a proven track record of assisting all parts of the shipping industry with its extensive range of legal solutions, skills and experience.
Aircraft Mortgage
The Firm's aviation work spans financial legal advisory services in respect of aircraft leasing and or acquisition. We register interest and charges, lieu and charges created on aircrafts with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and the Corporate Affairs Commission.
We conduct pre-acquisition due diligence in respect of prospective purchases. We regularly interface on behalf of clients with aviation regulatory Agencies in Nigeria. We advise clients in respect of regulatory issues and legal regimes operating in the aviation subsector of the economy.
