DISPUTE RESOLUTION

• Represented the Korean national oil carrier and its Nigerian subsidiary in appeals arising from the revocation of their Oil Prospecting Licenses.
• Represented the family of a deceased renowned Gambian journalist in a fundamental rights application filed before the Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS which resulted in a successful judgment against the Republic of Gambia.
• Appointed as a joint expert in Nigerian law in proceedings at the Truro County Court, United Kingdom; and provided an Expert Report covering enforcement of foreign judgment, divorce proceedings, settlement of property and rules of civil procedure of the High Courts of Nigeria.
• Acted as Nigerian Counsel to a Spanish oil company in a London-seated CIArb arbitration.
• Represented a global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider and its local subsidiary in an action for the recovery of over N1.6 billion.
• Represented a global oil field service provider in arbitration proceedings involving potential liability arising from charterparty agreements in respect of vessels hired to work on an oil rig.
• Represented a multinational bank in a claim of over N400 billion arising from an alleged fundamental rights infringement.
• Represented a utility company spanning four states in Nigeria in proceedings challenging the scope of the powers of one of the major industry regulators.
• Represented a multinational company in employee-related claims of over N5 billion involving over 100 former employees.
• Represented a multinational bank in an alleged copyright infringement action.
• Represented the largest cryptocurrency exchange platform in a criminal action against it on alleged counts of non-registration with relevant regulatory authorities, money laundering and manipulation of foreign exchange rates.
• Represented a commercial bank in three sister appeals arising from claims of breach of banker-customer relationship and obtained judgments in favour of the bank in all three appeals.
• Represented a US-based company as Defendant in a suit arising from claims of alleged copyright infringement and its related interlocutory appeal on the legality of virtual hearings in Nigeria.
• Represented a private Nigerian University in several employment/labour-related matters with a 95% success rate.

ADVISORY

• Advised one of the members of the consortium that acquired the US$300 million Ughelli Power Plant with installed capacity of 900MW during the privatisation exercise of the power sector of Nigeria conducted by the Bureau of Public Enterprises.
• Advised PowerChina Huadong Engineering Corporation as the EPC contractor and financier of a hydropower generating facility with an aggregate capacity of 39MW at Dadin Kowa 3 Dam in Gombe State, Nigeria, further to a concession granted to Mabon Limited by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources on behalf of the Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority.
• Advised a Canadian solar power company in connection with the development of proposed solar power projects across various states in Nigeria. Services rendered included carrying out property searches across Northern Nigeria in relation to acquisition of the project sites.
• Advised Equatorial Mining and Exploration PLC in the acquisition of nine Exploration Licenses for coal, limestone and gypsum in Nigeria and issued a due diligence legal opinion in support of its proposed listing on the AIM Market of the London Stock Exchange.
• Advised the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on its enforcement powers under extant laws and regulations.
• Advised one of the largest international commodities trading companies on issues arising from the seizure of a VLCC laden with about 1,000,000 barrels of crude by the Department of Petroleum Resources. Also advised on issues arising from the sale/purchase of adulterated crude oil.
• Provided regular advice to an American private foundation on its activities in Nigeria, covering general corporate matters, collaboration agreements with the National Planning Commission, employment contracts, personal income tax, pension contributions, employee compensation contributions, national health insurance and office lease matters.
• Advised the project sponsor of a 100MW photovoltaic solar project in Kaduna State, which was among the 14 front runners that signed Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) to the tune of US$2.5 billion with the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET).
• Advised the largest Chinese infrastructure company in West Africa on its bid to design, build, operate and transfer the Fourth Mainland Bridge in Lagos, Nigeria.
• Advised a company in connection with its bid to finance, refurbish, debottleneck and operate a Gas Processing Plant under a 25-year Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) arrangement to provide dedicated gas supply to a thermal power plant in the South-South region of Nigeria at an expected rate/volume of 90–100 MMscf of gas per day.
• Provided day-to-day legal advisory and support services to Abuja Electricity Distribution PLC, the sole company with franchise for marketing and distribution of electricity in Abuja, Niger, Kogi and Nasarawa States of Nigeria.
• Conducted training for staff of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on Safety Regulations and requirements within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.
• Conducted training for staff of a private Nigerian University on current trends in employment litigation, recommended exit management procedures and a review of its internal disciplinary processes.
• Advised an international construction company on regulatory compliance requirements in its day-to-day activities, especially as they relate to labour and employment matters.
• Advised the Nigerian subsidiary of an international non-governmental organisation on regulatory compliance under Nigerian law. This advice also involved contract reviews, company secretarial services and advice on labour and employment matters.
