Uche Nwokocha

Uche’s genuine passion for intellectual property makes her “one of the leading practitioners in the market”, according to Chambers Global. She firmly believes that companies that haven’t embraced innovation will be left behind. In addition to managing a global portfolio of clients whose brands are household names, she serves on the board of the International Trademark Association and is active with several other organisations.

Uche advises on the full gamut of intellectual property mandates, with a focus on trademark issues. She frequently advises blue-chip multinationals and local outfits across industry sectors including consumer products, as well as the health and pharmaceutical industry. A source described her as a "very intelligent and hard-working person" who is also a "thought leader." - Chambers Global 2021

As head of the firm’s Intellectual Property and Anti-Counterfeiting practice, Uche advises local and international clients on the full range of brand-related matters, including licensing and franchising of technology, transfer agreements and product registration with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control. She represents global brands including The Coca-Cola Company, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Kimberly-Clark Worldwide and the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). She advised clothing retailer H&M in relation to the infringement and unlawful use of its trademark by a local business. She successfully argued cancellation proceedings for GSK against an application by a third party to register a trademark conflicting with their Panadol and Lucozade trademarks. She advised FIFA in connection with the infringement of its trademarks during the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and she remains the leader on issues relating to unlawful use of the FIFA emblem. She has also advised Reckitt Benckiser on anti-counterfeiting matters and BASF on trademarks and product registration.
