CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY ENGAGEMENT

Assisting the communities where we operate is crucial to our work and our mission. We utilise our passion, talent, leadership skills and resources to positively impact today’s social and economic challenges. Through our Corporate Social Responsibility Engagement, our colleagues are inspired to collaborate and make a difference with others who share the same commitment to social issues.

EDUCATION AND SCHOLARSHIP INITIATIVES

Bankole Olumide Aluko (BOA) Memorial Scholarship
To commemorate the memory of co-founding partner Bankole Alumide Aluko, who passed away in 2002, we award substantial scholarships and employment opportunities to the top graduating law studies students from three Nigerian universities: University of Lagos, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and University of Nigeria.

Internship Programmes
We select students for participation in our internship programmes based on academic achievement and excellence. Our interns work directly with our lawyers, and have access to our well-stocked library, state-of-the art office equipment, and other leading-edge technologies. The interns gain valuable work and career experience, as well as develop mentoring relationships with our lawyers. At Aluko & Oyebode, our doors are always open.

LEADERSHIP INITIATIVES

Teach for Nigeria
Every child deserves an excellent education, yet millions of children are denied access to quality education due to continuing poverty. With the ultimate aim of eliminating educational inequality, we support this transformative leadership programme which equips teaching fellows with the leadership skills to effect change beyond the classroom walls of the communities where we serve.

Nigeria Leadership Initiative
The mission of this international, non-partisan organisation is to create a global network of community-spirited leaders who are committed to achieving positive change in Nigeria. The programme provides a platform for highly accomplished leaders (fellows) and emerging leaders (associates) to understand and appreciate the importance of values-based leadership in transforming countries and societies, and our lawyers actively participate as fellows and associates. Fellows and associates are required to undertake leadership class projects, which must address a pressing need in Nigerian society and show discernible results within a year from inception.

COMMUNITY AND HUMANITARIAN INVOLVEMENT

Run for a Cure
Since 2009, our lawyers and staff have actively participated in annual races and supported the ‘Run for a Cure’ programme initiated by Child Survival and Development Organisation of Nigeria (CS-DON) in its effort to raise awareness about breast, child and cervical cancer in Nigeria, erase social stigmas by lessening the impact of this disease on the women of our community, and also provide testing and treatment equipment to help give hope to people battling cancer.

Run for a Cure Africa (RFCA) Breast Cancer Awareness Run/Walk
RFCA is a non-profit organisation established with the aim of eradicating breast cancer in Africa, and provides free screenings, subsidised treatment and outreach. Each year since 2009, we have actively participated in RFCA’s annual run/walk and supported and raised funds for the organisation.

Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF)
The Nigerian Conservation Foundation is an environmental, non-governmental organisation that works to preserve the natural resources and biodiversity of Nigeria. Each year, we sponsor and support NCF’s annual Walk for Nature and other events.

World Humanitarian Day
To commemorate World Humanitarian Day, which takes place annually on 19 August as designated by the UN General Assembly to mark the anniversary of the 2003 bombing of the UN headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq, we choose a project of focus. For example, in 2017 we donated relief materials to internally displaced persons (IDPs), consisting of women and children living in Lagos State.
