Tunde Fagbohunlu SAN (Partner, Head of Litigation, Arbitration and ADR Groups, Aluko & Oyebode, Nigeria), John Miles (Managing Director of JMiles & Co, Nairobi) and Kamal Shah (Partner, Head of the Africa Group, Stephenson Harwood, London) have co-authored this comprehensive account of arbitration in key jurisdictions in Africa. The book was written in conjunction with leading African arbitrators and lawyers.

The three internationally renowned arbitration lawyers share their insights into the key jurisdictions across the continent. With the impetus of the emergence over the last decade of Africa as a leading centre of economic growth – through which the majority of industries within Africa have experienced rapid expansion as a result of increased investment and interest from around the globe – there has been a consequent increase in disputes.

“Everybody is talking about the ‘Africanisation’ of arbitration, and because this is gaining momentum, knowledge of the arbitration laws of African countries, their court systems and how their courts interact with the arbitral process is critical. This book fulfils that requirement” – Tunde Fagbohunlu, SAN, Partner and Head of Litigation and Arbitration, Aluko & Oyebode.

The authors have decades of experience acting in disputes relating to the continent, and are widely regarded as leading experts on international arbitration. Their book is a valuable text for any arbitration user or in-house counsel operating within Africa, and provides a thorough and comprehensive account of the market. As well as giving historical context to arbitration in Africa, it also gives a guide on the rules, regulations and laws, covers issues surrounding recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitration awards, and looks at the future for arbitration on the continent.

Arbitration in Africa: a Review of Key Jurisdictions offers full and detailed coverage of specific regions, including: the East African community, Lusophone Africa, Anglophone and Francophone West African countries, Southern Africa and Arabic speaking countries.
