MAR 2017 NEWS Aluko & Oyebode

Following the success of the INTA first regional meeting in Africa titled “Building Africa with Brands”, held in Cape Town, South Africa, INTA has introduced the Roundtable (usually hosted in U.S cities) to Africa for the first time. The Africa roundtable committee members were drawn from Nigeria, South Africa and Kenya. The members are Aluko & Oyebode Partner, Uche Nwokocha (chair), Simon Brown, Afam Nwokedi, Lara Kayode, and John Syekei.

The theme of the roundtable is “The Importance of IP to Economic Growth”. The roundtable is focused on helping companies understand what their brands deliver to their bottom line and why companies need to prioritize IP protection and enforcement strategies. There will also be a discussion on ways a legal counsel can help businesses build and implement the right strategy.

The first roundtable will hold at the offices of Aluko & Oyebode in Lagos, Nigeria on Thursday, March 30, 2017 between 12:00pm and 4:00pm.The guest speaker at the roundtable is Mr. Williams Amuga, the Registrar, Trademarks, Patents and Designs Registry, Nigeria. The Host and moderator is Uche Nwokocha, Partner, Aluko & Oyebode.

INTA Roundtables are one of the several methods used within the INTA to facilitate dialogue amongst stakeholders on key issues at the heart of the INTA mission. The interactions at this roundtable are intended to generate an inspiring and constructive, forward-looking dialogue on the importance of IP to economic growth. The roundtable promises to be full of refreshing ideas.
