The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has launched a new Visa-On-Arrival application process for all business travellers and African Union Countries. Visitors coming into Nigeria can now apply for Visa On Arrival online prior to their arrival.

The Visa On Arrival (VOA) allows visitors coming into Nigeria, to obtain their visa at the point of entry. The VOA facility is available to (i) business travellers with business interest in Nigeria and (ii) citizens of African countries (except ECOWAS member countries who do not require a visa to visit Nigeria). It is important to note that only African nationals qualify for visitor/tourist VOA.

The new VOA application process can now be done in three steps;

Step 1 – Apply Online : Go on the NIS portal at https://portal.immigration.gov.ng/visa/freshVisa to complete the application and upload copies of the required documents. The list of documents required to process a VOA application is available here.

Step 2 – Pay Online: Make payment online. Upon successful application and online payment, an approval confirmation and “Visa on Arrival Approval Letter” will be sent to the email provided by the applicant within 48hours. The visa approval letter is valid for fourteen (14) days from the date of issuance.

Step 3 –Complete the Biometric Enrolment, immigration Clearance and Obtain the Visa at the Port of Entry: The traveller on arrival at the port of entry will present for immigration clearance at the Visa On Arrival desk the following documents; (i) the approval letter, (ii) evidence of online payment, (iii) valid passport and (iv) valid return ticket. The visa is used at the point of entry.
