The National Information Technology Development Agency (the ”NITDA”) is statutorily mandated under the National Information Technology Development Act (the “Act”) to regulate information and communication technology (“ICT”) matters in Nigeria.
Whilst recognising the challenges faced by most organisation during COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in the context of the lockdown and the need to work remotely, the NITDA has stressed the need for organizations to continue to maintain and enhance, their infrastructure for storage and backing-up copies of data generated from personal computers, servers, storage devices or personal electronic devices. It has accordingly recommended the following basic guides:
- ensuring that data is backed up frequently and at regular intervals;
- using remote storage for backups;
- ensuring that files containing data backups are encrypted and protected; and
- using multiple methods and multiple media for data backups.
