Aluko & Oyebode in collaboration with international law firm Baker Mckenzie, hosted a virtual Oil & Gas Construction Law Roundtable series for select senior oil and gas stakeholders operating in Nigeria, which took place on 26th January 2021, 4th, 18th, and 25th February, and 2nd March 2021. The series offered participants insight in addressing current business and legal issues relevant to their respective organisations and roles, covering the following topics: Procurement methods and risk allocation; Regulatory landscape, local content requirement and compliance considerations; Effective contract management; Dealing with contractor claims and Dispute resolution.
The speakers from the Firm included Babatunde Fagbohunlu SAN, Senior Partner and Head of the Dispute Resolution Practice, Oghogho Makinde, Partner and Ngo-Martins Okonmah, Senior Associate.
The panel discussions considered a wide range of issues, including but not limited to; methods of procurement, risks in developmental projects and resulting implications for Employers and Contractors, regulatory issues in developmental projects, compliance considerations, project handover considerations, notice provisions, evidence collation, strategic decision making, effective risk management, employer protection, alternative dispute resolution methods such as expert determination and adjudication and pre-contract drafting considerations.
The series facilitated engagement from the delegates who were invited to contribute to the deliberations. The interactive roundtable format encouraged contributions from participants who benefitted from the legal expertise and practical knowledge of the panel of experts.
