
Our flash note on 20 May 2020 (click here) showed that Ekiti state was the first to comply with the Federal Government’s directive to reduce Right of Way (RoW) by reducing the RoW charges from N4,500 (Four Thousand Five Hundred Naira only) to N145 (One Hundred and Forty-Five Naira only), (approximately US$0.37 (Thirty-Seven Cents). Several other States in Nigeria have implemented the Federal Government directive by reducing or waiving in its entirety the RoW charges.

Commending the actions of the Governors, the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Mr. Isa Pantami noted that this would deepen broadband penetration in Nigeria, promote a digital economy for Nigeria in line with the earlier resolution of the Nigerian Governor’s forum and facilitate the implementation of the National Broadband Plan (“NBP”) launched on 19 March 2020. The Minister also urged other Governors to follow suit in order to boost digital penetration, facilitate digital literacy, develop Nigeria’s digital economy and improve gross domestic product.
