NOV 2019 NEWS OGHOGHO MAKINDE AND OLAGOKE KUYE

The Department of Petroleum Resources (“DPR”), on 17 October 2019 issued the Guidelines for the Release of Staff in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry, 2019 (the “2019 Guidelines”), pursuant to Regulation 15A of the Petroleum (Drilling and Production) Regulations (as amended).

The 2019 Guidelines repeals and replaces the Guidelines No. 1 of 2015 for the Release of Staff in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry (the “2015 Guidelines”). The 2019 Guidelines which are similar to the 2015 Guidelines introduces some material changes in the current regime for the release of staff in the oil and gas sector.

There is now an annual reporting obligation and every employer is required to submit to the DPR the following information on or before 31 March of every year:

  • Name and designation of all its workers;
  • The number of workers employed during the period ending 31 March; and
  • The number of workers released prior to the period ending 3 March.
