The Nigerian Data Protection Regulation (“the NDPR”) issued by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) requires all organisations that collect and process personal data (“Data Controllers”) of more than 2,000 subjects, to submit a summary of their organisation’s data protection audit not later than 15 March of every year.
The NITDA, in recognition of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic to how we work, has now extended the timeline for the submission of the annual regulatory audit from the 15th of March 2021 to the 30th of June 2021.
Companies and organizations who are yet to submit their annual audit report now have up till the 30th of June 2020 to take all necessary steps to meet the new submission date and avoid the imposition of sanctions under the NDPR and the NITDA Act.
